Subject: Beach Closure
Below
is a copy of notice posted on WDFW Bulletin Board at Bush Point.
All fishermen are on notice that the rules will be strictly enforced
by Island County Sheriff Department. Fishing is restricted to
sign posted areas only.
FOR
INFORMATION ONLY.....RE: BUSH POINT CLOSURE
The
property owners on Spyglass Drive (Bush Point) were forced to
close their tidelands to fishing and other recreational activities.
We
have experienced:
Fires
left unattended and burning within 10 feet from our homes.
People "relieving" themselves and waving to us while
they're doing it.
Garbage by the bags full; lure wrapping, stripped line, pop/beer
bottles, you name it, we pick it up on Monday.
Our lives have been threatened.
Lawsuits pending and the only reason we're involved is they were
on our property. Our insurance companies say they will no longer
cover us if we allow public access to our beach.
Families camping, setting up canning operations and never recording
a fish caught.
Fireworks going astray into dry grass, and no one caring.
Not being able to sleep past 5 AM. We're retired and would like
to sleep till 8, maybe.
We've had women fighting and screaming at 6 in the morning; how
would you like that?
We're
sorry we had to do it, but the lack of respect by a few for private
property and the liability we would incur, through no fault of
our own, leaves us no alternative.
Thank
you for understanding.

Well, the WDWF has slipped in a new regulation you'd better be
aware of.
On
page 16 of the new Regs Book that came out in April under NOTE:
is their disclaimer regarding rules changes. Read it carefully.
To me, it seems the "Constructive Notice" to the public
is a little weak.
Now
for the big one to look out for. Under "Lawful Fishing Tackle
General." Hook and line angling - "unless noted differently,
only one line with up to 2 hooks. Barbless hooks only for all
species in marine areas 5-13."
Don't
get suckered into buying manufactured barbless hooks! Just take
pliers and bend the barbs on the hooks you now have. Bend them
down so your finger does not snag and you will be covered.
